Alexander, 31, works in a wallpaper factory in Slaviansk. He remembers the three months of DNR secessionists' occupation from May to July 2014, and recalls their violent behaviors. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Taicia, volunteer, 51, is a nurse from Kyiv. She helps humbly. Her face seems coming straight out of a sovietic mural fresco of the fifties. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Nina is 62. She and her husband Valentin come from Debaltseve. Their house has been destroyed. Nina has a cancer that can't be treated for the moment. She has an only hope : see her son again, Gennadiy, 43 who lives in Alchevsk. Because of the war, she can't reach him. She died two weeks after our meeting. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Andrey, 43, is from Gorlovka. He used to be a taxi driver. His house has been bombed, his car burnt. He now lives in a wagon in Slaviansk train station. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Bogdan, 20, volunteering as a soldier and aspires to enter the medical unit of military hospital. His sad look reflects the hard times he experienced in Debaltsevo a few days ago. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Vlad, 33, is from Slaviansk. During the DNR period, from may to july 2014, he protected the building owned by the Evangelists, from DNR secessionists. He now manages the IDP center created by Evangelist church of Slaviansk, from the first arrivals of IDP, in last October. 45 of them now live there. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Evgeniy, 78, is quite disillusioned by the situation. According to him, people from the West of Ukraine are Fascists, but he also freely admits that Lenin wasn't a good man either. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Kramatorsk - UKRAINE Larisa, volunteer, 49, is a laboratory technician coming from Zhytomyr. She worked in Italy and dreams about coming to Paris. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Roman is an Ukrainian soldier. He is been fighting for months around Donetsk airport and takes a few days rest in Kyiv. Roman is tired and discovers with anxiety how much prices increased in real life those last months. Volunteers helped him to buy his own uniform. Kyiv - UKRAINE Alexander, 23, is from Gorlovka. Himself deplaced person from war zones, he now manages an IDP center in Kramatorsk. Kramatorsk - UKRAINE Natasha, volunteer from Kyiv, 36, works at the administration of the Artemivsk militay hospital. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Lena, 37, from Donetsk, arrived alone with her 4 children. She now works as a street cleaner in Kramatorsk. Here with her two daughters. Valya often smile. Anna, 17, is more silent and looks sad. She aims at becoming a cook and prepares the daily meals of her family. Kramatorsk - UKRAINE Andrey, volunteer, 29, helps wounded soldiers at the hospital. He has a gentle smile that may be reflects is belonging to the Hram Slavy Hospoda Evangelist. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Zhenya, volunteers as a doctor, 35 from Kyiv. Contrary to appearances, he is is a X-Ray specialist...Bakhmout - UKRAINE Liudmila, who care about all hospital mouths and empty bellies. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Viktor is a fisherman on Artemivsk lake. Like his fellow fisherman, the catch on this day was poor. Viktor doesn't speak about politics, instead preferring to teach others how to pierce the ice with his huge drill. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Valentyn and Evgeniya, 32 and 24, volunteers from Karkiv. They brought goods to the hospital and pursued their road to Lugansk Oblast by night. Highly involved in volunteering, in Ukraine but also abroad, they aim at showing to Europe authorities the real war that take place in east of Ukraine. Bakhmout - UKRAINE Vassili, 52 is from Yenakevio. The house he used to live in, in Donetsk, has been bombed. His brother could afford to live to Moscow. Vassili could escape from Donetsk but the Ukrainians authorities forbid him to come back to Donetsk. Because of his Gypsies origins, he has been beaten by DNR secessionists. One of is son is living in Moscow. But he has not enough money to join him. Vassili can't help crying, thinking to all what he lost. He now lives in a wagon in Slaviansk railway station. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Evgen, volunteer, 30, from Mykolaiv, is a massager in civil life, joined the medical unit of mobile hospital in October 2014. Behind him, the drawings that were performed by Ukrainian children to support the soldiers. Thousands of these drawings from all part of Ukraine are sent to the soldiers on all the front lines to cheer them up. Bakhmout (UKRAINE) Vlad, 3 years old. Vlad likes playing at "Seek and hide". Vlad is mute. Kramatorsk - UKRAINE Liuda is 19. She helps as many other young people as a volunteer in the IDP center created by the Dobraya Viest protestant church in Slaviansk railway station. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Sveta, 27, from Yenakievo, has 3 children. Vlad is one of them. They live with some other 20 people in the same room. Kramatorsk - UKRAINE Slaviansk - UKRAINE Michal, 26, is from Czech Republic. He has been livingin in Ukraine for one year now, and helps Donbass people as a volunteer at Slaviansk railway station. Michal belongs to the Dobraya Viest protestant church, which is quite influent in Slaviansk. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Liudmila, 67, is from Slaviansk. During Soviet times, she worked in the ceramic factories of the city. She is convinced that DNR sessionists are not the solution and supports the Ukrainian government, hoping that Poroshenko "family" will be less corrupt than the previous one. Slaviansk - UKRAINE Suren, from Khmelnytsky, volunteers as a ambulance driver at mobile hospital. Plans to stay here till he will be able to parade on Moscow.
